Specialties: Bottle Riot offers an extensive and ever-changing list of hand-selected natural wines, deliciously obscure European beers, and spirits. The beverage menu celebrates family-owned wineries, winemakers, and brewers from around the globe, producing exceptional products with minimal intervention using sustainable, organic, and/or biodynamic growing practices. Paying tribute to the creative spirit of the space's previous tenant, the late sculptor John Payne, Bottle Riot continues to celebrate local artists with bimonthly openings and ongoing exhibits. Bottle Riot is located in Wedge Studios (lower level) at 37 Paynes Way in the heart of Asheville's eclectic River Arts District. Established in 2018. Locally owned and operated. With the help of friends and family, owners Lauri and Barrett Nichols transformed the late sculptor John Payne's River Arts District studio space into a comfortable, one-of-a-kind wine bar. District Wine Bar opened Valentine's Day 2018 with an expansive by-the-glass wine list, even more options by the bottle, and a small selection of European beers. Two years later, District Wine Bar rebranded and Bottle Riot was born. The new name better reflected the creative vibe and edge of the River Arts District and the personality of the business. While Bottle Riot continues to evolve, the owner's adventurous, approachable and unorthodox attitude toward wine remains.
