Curated bysoprano Elizaveta Kozlova,the series highlights unique blends of European and Indigenous musical forms. Instituto Cervantes New York concludes the series withVillancicos and Dances – Mexico & Peru,featuring chamber arrangements of festive and sacred works. A rich musical scene from 17th and 18th-century New Spain blended European forms with Indigenous motifs. Harp and guitar (vihuela) were the instruments that prevailed in the chamber music of the time. This program highlights the unique interplay of these plucked instruments through pieces by prominent Mexican and Peruvian composers.
