Cailiní Lofa
is about bridging the gap between the Irish language and club culture. Through their performance they recontextualise the language through the lens of female sexuality, queerness and youth culture. Mikayla O’ Dowd
Laced with her experience as a registered nurse, O’ Dowd is a contemporary surrealist fascinated by the way that discontent blends with tranquility to forge reverie. Nostalgia haunts her as she paints rich oil hues over grisailles until the images of resentment melt into solace. Somewhere between the flowing organic structures and the rigid forms, she reveals unexpected silver-linings to unresolved conflicts.
The displayed work is an exploration into the habitual animosity between women and their mothers; mothers and the world; an inheritance of tradition.
Originals and prints available for purchase, see artist for more information.
Jaden Tactaquin
