Michigan Humanities has awarded a grant to Sanilac County Historical Society, presenting Cinco de Mayo Fundraiser Concert. Our headliner performance is Conjunto Champz, a Saginaw based ensemble. The Conjunto Champz musical genre goes by many names: Tex-Mex, Tejano, & Norteño. The music fuses Mexican and Spanish vocal traditions with Czech and German dance tunes and rhythms, particularly polka. This blend of cultures into a musical subgenre is the quintessential result of the American-melting pot. The group has been performing for 10 years and tours nationally each year.
This Chicano performance will benefit the arts and humanities in our community by crossing links of our region’s background with making connections with new ones. Sanilac county’s demographics have roots tracing back to
