About

It's AAPI Month and we have a special Boxing class brought to you by owner of Bayanihan Boxing, JT! Bayanihan Boxing is an affordable, inclusive and low-impact sports and martial arts program with a holistic method to training in the sweet science. We want to train folks who might not see themselves boxing because of the hypermasculinity, exclusivity & expenses around the sport, but totally could and should join. If you are trying to get a start in boxing, this is for you! We are a sports and martial arts program with a holistic method to training in the sweet science. This program is a great way to empower one's cardiovascular health, physical strength, presence of mind, management of anxiety, communication skills, assertiveness and self-defense skills. It takes a village to raise a champion. It takes the bayan (people) to raise each bayani (hero). What will participants get out of the class? Participants will practice lessons that apply to both the sport and martial art of boxing, as well as their daily lives. They will learn the fundamentals of footwork, defense and offense. With elements of community-building, technical drills and calisthenics, they will excel as boxers while learning how to coach others. They will acquire a set of low-impact exercises they could use for effective workouts while avoiding any injuries in their long-term fitness journeys. What will the class be like? Our class begins with warm welcomes of course! It's Bayanihan Boxing after all (= Upon arrival, we will show participants how to wrap their hands and use their boxing gear. We will open the session with a quick round of introductions, a moment of mindfulness, and a discussion or activity related to the concept we will work on. We will do warm-up drills such as jump rope and cardio exercises. Afterwards, participants will be introduced to a set of techniques that they will practice in many forms, including mitt work. Towards the end of the exercise, we will engage in conditioning drills through calisthenics. We will end the session with stretching to cool down.
