In December of 2016, long-time friends and consultants, Robert Rodriguez, PhD, and Angel Gomez were trading war stories about their previous careers in corporate America over a couple of pints and a deep-dish pizza, as true Chicagoans tend to do. Dr. Rodriguez shared how he overcame the challenges of being the only Latino in leadership at companies like Amoco, 3M and Target, struggling with his sense of Latino identity all along. Angel spoke about his trials climbing the corporate ladder to the executive ranks at Walmart and how some of his Latino cultural norms either impeded his progress or helped him in other circumstances.
